The student category allows foreigners to reside in Argentina while attending officially recognized educational institutions. It covers undergraduate degrees, graduate programs, language courses and exchange programs. The student may work up to 20 hours per week with authorization from the DNM.

You must apply for temporary residency for studies before the National Immigration Office (DNM). You will need a letter of admission or proof of enrollment in an officially recognized Argentine educational institution, a valid passport, criminal background check, proof of domicile and health insurance. MERCOSUR nationals can regularize their status by simply proving their nationality.

Yes. Argentine public universities are free for both nationals and foreigners. No tuition or fees are charged for undergraduate programs. Foreigners can enroll with their passport and their academic documentation duly apostilled or legalized. For graduate programs, some universities charge differentiated fees.

The main requirements are: a letter of admission or proof of enrollment in an officially recognized educational institution, a valid passport, criminal background check from the country of origin, proof of domicile in Argentina, valid health insurance, and proof of sufficient financial means to cover the stay.

Temporary residency for studies is granted for up to two years, renewable as long as continuity of studies is demonstrated. The holder may work legally in Argentina with their foreigner DNI. Once the legal timeframes have been met, conversion to permanent residency can be requested.

Student exchange programs allow foreigners to attend one or two semesters at Argentine universities. The student applies for temporary residency for studies with the program acceptance letter. Leading universities have bilateral agreements that facilitate the admission process and course credit transfer.
